Senator Johnson Comments on Passage of Two-Week Continuing Resolution

Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) today commented on the Senate vote to pass a two-week continuing resolution funding measure, which cuts $4 billion from 2011 spending:

“It is a shame we are having to deal with a budget that was supposed to be passed in the fall of 2010.

“I voted for this continuing resolution because it is only a two week measure, and because it recognizes and prorates the savings that the House of Representatives is requiring – an effort which I support. We are in this situation because of the irresponsibility and lack of leadership of this administration and the previous Democratically-controlled Congress – as well as the Democratically-controlled Senate in this Congress, which recessed last week instead of choosing to work on our critical fiscal problems.

“These short-term situations are harmful for the Defense Department budget, as well as those of other agencies. If we can’t come to agreement on a longer term funding bill we will see increased spending as a result of agencies being forced to budget on a two-week-at-a-time basis. We need to see some real solutions before we vote on the next one.”
