Sen. Johnson’s Statement on St. Croix River Bridge Opening to Traffic Tonight

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) issued this statement about the new St. Croix River Bridge, which officially opens to traffic at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The $646 million project, built thanks to bipartisan legislation Sen. Johnson co-sponsored that was signed into law in 2012, connects highways in Wisconsin and Minnesota and shifts traffic off the 86-year-old Stillwater Lift Bridge.

“The opening of the new St. Croix River Bridge is a game changer for western Wisconsin. It will make travel between Wisconsin and Minnesota immensely easier and be a catalyst for development,” Sen. Johnson said. While it literally took an act of Congress to get the necessary approvals, this bridge is a great example of the effectiveness of local leadership and lawmakers working across the aisle to get things done to enhance the quality of life in western Wisconsin.”
