Johnson Statement Regarding Student Loan Vote

Washington, D.C. – Senator Ron Johnson (WI) today released the following statement regarding the Senate vote on student loan interest rates:

“Young people are suffering badly from the Obama economy – which leaves half of all recent college graduates unable to find work. Harry Reid’s bill worsens the employment outlook for young Americans by taxing job creators. It is exactly the wrong approach. It uses students as political pawns, and does nothing to address the issue of college costs.

“I encourage a vigorous debate on the rising cost of a college education, the mismatch between college curriculums and actual work place demands, and the enormous debt burden young adults must sustain to pay for college. The cost of a college education has multiplied exponentially over the past three decades and much of that additional cost provides little or no value to a student attending college.”
