Johnson Introduces Bill to Repeal Executive Amnesty, Questions DHS on President’s Actions

Washington – Sen. Ron Johnson introduced a bill Thursday that would block funding for President Obama’s recent executive actions related to immigration. Sen. Johnson also sent a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson to highlight fundamental questions about the programs. He made these remarks afterward:

“I am pleased to introduce a Senate companion bill to Chairman Robert Aderholt’s Repeal Executive Amnesty Act of 2015.  This bill stops unelected bureaucrats from using the dollars of hardworking taxpayers to implement the president’s unconstitutional executive actions.  The bill takes important steps toward fixing rules that have been abused for too long, ensuring enforcement of our immigration laws, and eliminating the policies that led to the surge at our southern border last summer.

“While this bill doesn’t address all immigration problems, it is an important first step.  As chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, I will work with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure these important reforms are addressed.

“I also look forward to Secretary Johnson’s response to fundamental questions about the president’s unilateral action, which was specifically designed to circumvent Congress’ role.  Answers to these questions will inform my committee as it fulfills its constitutional role of oversight.”

The questions that Sen. Johnson asked are in the letter he sent to Secretary Johnson. A copy of the letter is available at the link below.
