Never Forget

Remembering 9/11

Sen. Johnson at 9/11 Memorial and Museum in NYC

It has been 19 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11. As we remember the lives lost on this solemn day, let us also remember the unity and patriotism that pulled us together as our nation grieved.

Last year, my Senate committee held a hearing at the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York City. The museum has been closed due to the pandemic, but it is reopening to the public Sept. 12. It is a place I encourage every American to go see.

To learn more about the national memorial, watch this video from last year's hearing.

Coronavirus Relief Blocked by Democrats

Blocked by Democrats

Senate Democrats once again blocked a coronavirus relief bill this week that would help unemployed workers and small businesses.

It is unfortunate Democrats won't take yes for an answer. Once again, they have taken the position it's either their way or the highway. Just because Democrats didn't get everything on their $3 billion political wishlist, unemployed workers won't get additional federal unemployment benefits and small businesses won't get needed financial support. What a shame.

Federal Judge Confirmed for Wisconsin

I was pleased to recommend and vote for Brett Ludwig this week to fill an important judicial vacancy that remained open for far too long.

Judges, like Judge Ludwig, who are committed to applying the law as written and not acting like superlegislators from the bench are critical in upholding our system of checks and balances.

Ludwig has been confirmed as the U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, filling the seat previously held by Rudolph Randa, who died in 2016.

Virtual Academy Day

Each September, my office meets with high school students who are interested in learning more about pursuing a nomination to a military service academy.

Because of the pandemic, the annual Academy Day (normally held at the EAA Museum in Oshkosh) is virtual this year.

Please forward this video link to your local high school so they can help spread the word to students interested in serving their country in this capacity.

The nomination application deadline for my office is Monday, Sept. 28, 2020.
