Johnson Comments on Passage of Keystone XL Pipeline Bill

WASHINGTON – Sen. Johnson made these comments following the passage of the Keystone XL Pipeline bill:

“I am pleased that after a substantive and open debate the bill to permit the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline was approved by a bipartisan majority of the Senate. I am proud to have voted yes.

“Americans are finally starting to see improvement in the economy, largely because of lower energy prices. The pipeline is part of ensuring that the private sector’s success in finding new sources of energy in North America will continue. Multiple studies, including review by the Obama administration’s State Department, have shown that building the pipeline is the most environmentally friendly method of transporting oil from Canada. There is no good reason for the administration to continue blocking the project, and I am pleased that senators from both parties agree.

“I call on President Obama to listen to the American people, to drop his irrational, politically motivated opposition, and to sign this bill.”
