Sen. Johnson on CNN: ‘We Have to Destroy ISIS’

WASHINGTON — During an appearance on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, spoke about the recent terror attack in Manchester, England and what is being done to prevent similar attacks in the United States. Excerpts of Senator Johnson’s appearance are below, and video can be found here.

“We have to destroy ISIS.”

“This is a long-term generational struggle and war that we're going to be in, and we need a willing coalition of the civilized world. We need Arabs to speak out and denounce this, to try and reform this within Islam, within the Muslim communities, and we need to positively engage in American communities.”

“One good [thing] is that in America, Muslim immigrants have assimilated into our culture to a greater extent than they have in Europe. ... That's why we need to continue to engage here in Muslim communities and make sure people do assimilate, that they come to America willing to embrace our culture, (to) take advantage of the opportunities and become part of our society.”
