Johnson Appointed to Senior Oversight Position

Senator Susan Collins (ME) today announced that Senator Ron Johnson (WI) has been chosen to serve as Ranking Republican Member on the Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management. The subcommittee is part of the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Oversight, of which Johnson is a member. Collins currently serves as Ranking Republican on the committee.

“I am pleased that Senator Johnson will bring his accounting expertise and business acumen to the top Republican leadership position on the Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia,” said Senator Collins.  “Senator Johnson’s common-sense approach and attention to detail in every aspect of his family’s manufacturing business will be a huge benefit to all who want the federal government to work more efficiently and effectively.”

Senator Johnson said:

“Responsible oversight has never been more important than it is now, as we have seen federal spending increase by 25% in just the last few years. I’ve pushed for greater scrutiny of, and education about, inefficiencies and waste in government. I’m glad to have the opportunity to focus on the problem, through this subcommittee position.”

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Federal Civil Service; authorizing matters related to the District of Columbia; studying the effectiveness of national security staffing; studying the intergovernmental relationships between the United States and the States and municipalities, and between the United States and international organizations of which the United States is a member; and, studying the management, efficiency, effectiveness and economy of all agencies and departments of the Federal government, including the Management Directorate of the Department of Homeland Security. The chairman is Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI).
