President Obama promised that under the Affordable Care Act, “if you like your current insurance, you keep that insurance. Period. End of story.” He said that “if you have health insurance, the only thing that changes for you is you’re more secure.”
We know that’s not true. Kathi Rose of Neenah knows it more than most. The pastor, who is 62 years old, had insurance she chose. She was notified that she can’t keep it because it doesn’t include maternity benefits or pediatric dental care. Her new plan that meets Obamacare’s mandates will cost her an extra $4,000 per year, making it hard to afford care for her special-needs daughter.
Millions of Americans have likewise been told their insurance is being cancelled because, while it may have satisfied them, it doesn’t satisfy Obamacare’s rules. In Wisconsin, almost 22,000 people enrolled in the successful Health Insurance Risk Sharing Plan for high-cost patients will lose their insurance. Many others will see their cost increase substantially.
What difference does government intrusion make? For these families, it is an assault on their freedom, their budgets, and their health and well-being.
